Sherman Ong: Exodus - Wanita Yang Berlari, Short Film, 2003

After our successful start in 2010, and the experiences of this year, we would like to hear your feedback on the impact of PhotoIreland, and your personal experiences. We also want to discuss with the interested public about next year’s edition of Ireland’s International Festival Photography and Image Culture. The month of July 2012 will see PhotoIreland 2012, under the theme Migrations. Diaspora & Cultural Diversity.

Festival Director Ángel Luis González and Curator Moritz Neumüller will present the raw concept for this new edition and will listen to what people have to say about it.

After the presentation, we will show Sherman Ong’s short film Exodus – Wanita Yang Berlari (29min 53sec, Indonesia/Singapore, Oct 2003).
Ong’s film touches on Migration issues in a poetic sense, and in a different world than ours. His film shows the relationship between a working-class Chinese shampoo girl and a Javanese court dancer in modern-day Java. The film conveys its narrative through dance rather than dialogue and shows two women from vastly different backgrounds and of different characters meeting in conflicting dance styles. The film-maker will be present at the screening.

This is your chance to make yourself heard and stay informed about PhotoIreland.
